A Sunday morning run to the grocery store turned into a scene straight out of a police scanner highlight reel in Middleborough — a domestic dispute, a knife pulled on a store employee, a baby buckled into the backseat, and a high-speed chase that ended with stop sticks flattening the tires at 547 Plymouth Street.
Two people are now facing charges. The infant is safe. And the parking lot of a Trucchi’s Supermarket in Middleborough, Massachusetts, once again became briefly famous for all the wrong reasons.

It Started Outside Trucchi’s — Then It Moved Inside
The incident unfolded on the morning of Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Trucchi’s Supermarket located at 438 West Grove Street — Route 28 — in Middleborough. According to reports, a young couple with their baby were already in the middle of a domestic argument when things spilled out of the parking lot and followed them into the store.
Once inside, the situation took a sharper turn. An employee at Trucchi’s reported being threatened by the male suspect — who was allegedly armed with a knife. That threat to store staff crossed the line from domestic dispute into criminal territory, and Middleborough Police were called to the scene.
Trucchi’s isn’t just any supermarket. It’s a South Coast institution — a family-owned chain that’s been part of southeastern Massachusetts communities for decades. The Middleborough location opened in 2012, taking over a 45,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Stop & Shop and turning it into what the company called “the hometown store Middleboro deserves.” Having it be the backdrop for a knife threat and a police pursuit is not exactly the kind of press anyone wants.
They Ran — With the Baby in the Car
When police arrived at the scene, the couple didn’t wait around to explain themselves. They got in their car and took off — baby still in the vehicle — launching a high-speed chase through multiple towns in the Middleborough area.
The decision to flee with an infant in the car added a level of recklessness to the situation that went well beyond the original domestic dispute. A baby has no say in whether its parents want to outrun a police cruiser at 10 in the morning on a Sunday.
This kind of pursuit — where the suspects are willing to put a child at risk to avoid arrest — is unfortunately not unheard of in Bristol County. We’ve covered similar cases before, including reckless driving in Raynham that ended in tragedy and the broader pattern of violence impacting South Coast communities and innocent bystanders. Fleeing police with a child in the vehicle adds a potential child endangerment angle on top of whatever other charges the couple is already looking at.
Stop Sticks End the Chase on Plymouth Street
Middleborough Police weren’t going to let the chase go on indefinitely. Officers deployed stop sticks — spiked strips placed across the roadway to deflate tires — and brought the pursuit to a halt at approximately 10:00 a.m. in the area of 547 Plymouth Street in Middleborough.
Once the vehicle was disabled, both the driver and the passenger were taken into custody without further incident. A Massachusetts State Police trooper was observed at the scene calmly holding the infant — a striking contrast to the chaos of the preceding chase. No injuries were reported to anyone involved, including the baby.
The use of stop sticks is a calculated tactical decision — it ends a pursuit without requiring officers to execute a potentially dangerous PIT maneuver or force a crash at speed. Given that there was an infant in the vehicle, getting the car stopped as safely as possible was clearly the priority.
Two Arrests, Wareham District Court Ahead
Both suspects — the male driver and the female passenger — were placed under arrest. Specific charges had not been formally detailed at the time of publication, as police noted the domestic nature of the incident limited the immediate release of information. However, the charges are expected to relate to the alleged assault and knife threat at Trucchi’s, as well as offenses connected to the police pursuit itself.
The couple is expected to be arraigned at Wareham District Court, which handles criminal matters for Plymouth County including Middleborough and surrounding communities. Formal charges and any bail conditions will be set at arraignment.
Because the incident was classified as domestic in nature, police did not immediately release the suspects’ names or specific ages. That’s standard practice in Massachusetts for domestic cases, where departments are often cautious about releasing identifying information while the situation is still being processed.
What This Tells Us About Middleborough
Middleborough, a mid-sized town of about 24,000 people sitting at the crossroads of Route 44 and Route 28 in Plymouth County, doesn’t make crime headlines all that often. It’s a town that tends to stay below the radar — which is exactly why incidents like this one get noticed when they happen.
The Trucchi’s at Route 28 is a busy shopping plaza that serves residents across a wide swath of southeastern Massachusetts. It’s not a sketchy corner-store — it’s the kind of grocery store where families go on Sunday mornings. Having an employee threatened with a knife there is jarring, and the subsequent high-speed pursuit through residential streets isn’t something that just fades into the background.
South Coast crime has been on an uptick in 2026. From violent crime in Fall River to brazen car theft in Attleboro, the region has seen its share of police incidents this year. Middleborough joining that list on a Sunday morning, over what apparently started as a domestic argument, is a reminder that this kind of thing doesn’t respect zip codes.
The fact that a state trooper ended up standing in a parking lot in Middleborough holding a baby while its parents were being arrested is the image that will stick. Whatever the full circumstances turn out to be — and we’ll know more after arraignment — that’s not a picture anyone involved is going to be proud of.
What Happens Next
The case will proceed through Wareham District Court, where the couple faces arraignment on charges expected to include assault, threatening with a dangerous weapon, and various motor vehicle and pursuit-related offenses. Potential child endangerment charges — given the presence of the infant during the chase — may also be on the table, depending on how prosecutors frame the case.
The baby, reportedly safe throughout the ordeal, was placed in appropriate care following the arrests.
We’ll update this story as formal charges and arraignment information become available. If you witnessed the pursuit or have relevant information, the Middleborough Police Department can be reached at their non-emergency line.
